“The world and Internet are hungry”

E-WORLD

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi

Among the many sweet reasons for which Delhi is wooed the world over, the biggest is the array of food delicacies and myriad cuisines that it pans out for food freaks. Whether it is hot sumptuous aalu tikki, lacchedar paratha, butter chicken, or the frosty lassi, to name a few - the city has more to offer than perhaps any other city of the country.

Born, brought up and living in Nizamuddin East, a historical residential colony by all standards and a Mecca for Mughlai food-lovers, for Ravi V. Chhabra, it came very natural to delve into the food and beverages sector. He worked for India’s first Alcobev magazine called Ambrosia in 2001 and did many path-breaking stories on Indian government’s vexed excise policy, beer companies and about the alcohol trade. In 2005, he decided to occupy a space in the cloud with the launching of www.fnbworld.com.

Ravi V. Chhabra, who has worked with many international national publications as a full-time journalist like Hindustan Times, The Pioneer, Asian Age and as Editor in many myriad features magazines, the decision to open a website was a natural heart calling. One of his passions is cooking in the kitchen with his children playing the helpers.

Food and Beverages: fnbworld.com

The year 2005 was a turning point in his life; he established his own company Right Impact Media Inc. and simultaneously launched the website: fnbworld.com. Right Impact Media Inc. undertakes all communication needs of individuals and corporate as a Public Relations advisory and does complete websites solutions, while the partnering website fnbworld.com, Ravi V. Chhabra said “is an e-zine for features with a bias towards the F&B segment.”

It offers free segmented information on food, beverages, health and recreation, said Ravi V. Chhabra, “and it is backed by free periodic news alerts and newsletters for subscribed readers and affiliates.”

The website for its clients comes out with F&B newsletters and mailers, and it undertakes bulk supplies of home-made chocolates and high-end banquet services and is a facilitator for the supplies of select F&B products and services in the NCR via Order Form on its website’s home-page.

Journalism is not merely news

Describing what prompted him to start a website which is non news-based, and not in semblance with his journalistic background. Ravi V. Chhabra described, “Journalism is not merely news and journalism cannot be without news”, and there are huge segments in features and its sub-segments too.

“I have been mainly a features writer and the range has been corporate features, music, personalities and F&B segment,” he said. Our main story and News Grille sections on the website carry news. Our focus is features and reviews. Features entail creative writing. News is mainly factual reportage. Our infrastructure best supports features.

Is Right Impact Media Inc. bullish?

Now when the Internet is witnessing rapid changes with respect to technology and imperfection in the revenue model, what is the best model the company is thinking to monetize its Internet-based assets?

“There is not one revenue model that may apply to all, Ravi V. Chhabra confides. There is the direct advertising revenue model with variations, there is an advertorial model, there is supplies and facilitators model, there is clicks-based model (Google Adsense) and there is the content-driven model. There are many combinations of these that may work in these turbulent times and any company which has its stake in the Internet has to model it out in its own way, he said.

An ardent music lover, who loves to restore old motorcycles and owns two – a 60’s Czechoslovakian Jawa 250cc and a Polish clone mini-Rajdoot 175cc. He believes technology will change and so will the Internet. It will become more dynamic/interactive, more powerful and will have an enhanced advertising pull in the near future. That portends good time for websites’ revenue. We all know change is the only constant in life! Soon enough, India will all be more ‘internet-driven’. The value of cyber properties will increase with their age, services and viewer data. There is a similarity in the world (with reference to food) and internet – both are necessity and appetite-driven. They are always hungry!

“So, I am certain with an increase in Internet penetration in India, Right Impact Media Inc. and its affiliate www.raviVchhabra.com will synergize for a win-win in the F&B arena and in the new media and content creation domains.
