114th birthday of Gokulananda Geetiswami celebrated

GUWAHATI, Nov 27 – The Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum celebrated the 114th birthday of Gokulananda Geetiswami, the national poet and philosopher and prophet of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community in the State on November 26 at Radhamadhab Sevashram, Maligaon, a press release said.

At the beginning of the programme, the flag of the forum was hoisted by Purandar Sinha, the noted social worker and various senior social workers, writers paid their tributes to the poet.

A discussion on the life, literature and philosophy of the poet was held in which a number of intellectuals, writers from various parts of the north eastern region took part and appreciated him as the father of Bishnupriya Manipuri literature, modern thinker and philosopher. The symposium was presided over by Shyamakanta Sinha. Prof Prabhat Kr Sinha and Manashi Sinha were present as special guests. Haridas Sinha, the noted biographer of the late poet and the guest of honour of the programme was emotional before the crowd while delivering his flawless appreciation to the poet and discussed at length the pain and humiliation he faced at the propagation of his immortal songs among the masses.

Dr Prabhat Kr Sinha, the distinguished guest in the celebration, was honoured for his obtaining doctorate degree in research in the socio political aspects of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community.

The programme began with a welcome address from Jayprakash Sinha, president of the reception committee. Lakshmindra Sinha, the president of Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers Forum expressed his gratitude to all the distinguished guests, speakers, participants and audiences for their participation and discussed in brief the significance of the celebration of Geetiswami’s birthday.

The most attractive programme during the day was the felicitation of the senior citizens in the city where more than two dozens of senior citizens were present and they were very emotional in expressing their tributes to Gokulananda.

The competitors participating in the recitation and singing competion were felicitated with a merit certificate and cash. At the end a cultural programme was held.

Narendra Kumar Sinha (Tagore), the general secretary of the celebration committee thanked all for their wholehearted support in making the programme a grand success.

Assam Search Engine: Bisarok

Exclusive search engine on Assam Manash Pratim Gohain, TNN Jun 16, 2012, 01.46PM IST NEW DELHI: Assam got its own search engine ' Bisarok '. The search engine has been launched to get results exclusively on queries and information related to Assam. 'Bisarok', means 'to search' in Assamese language, has been launched and has been linked to various websites of the Government of Assam and departments, educational institutions and media. The search engine is likely to give a new online experience related to searches on Assam. Built on Google custom search engine, the search engine would be collating and building a database of web properties exclusively of the state in the North East region. 'Bisarok' has been developed by RK Rishikesh Sinha, who had earlier created a similar custom search engine ('Bisarei') on Bishnupriya Manipuri.
