NBMM hits out at Singha Gautam, says BMSS has no legal footing

GUWAHATI, June 18: The Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha (NBMM) lashed out at Bishnupriya Manipuri Surakha Samiti (BMSS) president Anil Singha Gautam for the latter’s statement given to the media stating that the BMSS had stripped NBMM president Dr Devendra Kumar Sinha of all powers, except convening NBMM sessions, that too, not without consulting the BMSS.

Reacting to the news item published on the June 5, 2011 issue of The Sentinel under the deadline “BMSS strips NBMM president of all powers”, NBMM general secretary Krishnadas Sinha said that the very meeting that had formed the BMSS was not legal as it had no approval of the NBMM, the constitution of which had no provision for convening any “national convention”. Since the convention had no legal footing, the BMSS formed at the convention and the resolutions taken thereof were totally “void ab initio”, Sinha said, and added: “...it is also a distressing matter that there is no similarity between the report published and the actual resolutions taken at the so-called convention. In a leaflet that contains the resolutions taken at the convention there is no mention that the powers of the president of the NBMM have been stripped of. The resolutions taken speak about the activities of the NBMM president who has been requested not to interfere directly or indirectly in the affairs of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council (BMDC)... Anil Singha Gautam, who had sent the report to The Sentinel, didn’t even hesitate to take to falsehood in maligning the image of NBMM president Dr Debendra Kumar Sinha purely out personal vendetta. This is reprehensible, and needs condemnation.”

Sinha further said that for anti-Mahasabha activities, Anil Singha Gautam had been suspended from the Mahasabha, and the irony was that such a “tainted person” had been made the president of the “so-called BMSS”. “A suspended person has no legal basis to say anything about the affairs of the Mahasabha. Singha Gautam is warned not to indulge in anti-Mahasabha activities in the future,” he added.

Assam Search Engine: Bisarok

The search engine has been launched to get results exclusively on queries and information related to Assam.
